The Math Behind the Meter
Total Satisfaction
Total satisfaction is the sum of all satisfaction points accumulated after watching your videos.
- Example 1: You watch your first YouTube video of a high-quality documentary and gain 20 points. Your total satisfaction is 20 points.
- Example 2: You watch a second video and gain 17 points. Your total satisfaction is now 37 points.
Marginal Satisfaction
Marginal satisfaction is the extra satisfaction gained from just the very next YouTube video you watch.
- Example 1: The 1st video you watch after a long break provides high extra satisfaction (20 points) because it feels fresh.
- Example 2: By the 7th video in a row, your marginal satisfaction might become negative because you are bored and just clicking out of habit.
